USCG+extends+the+deadline+for+Vessel+Security+Officer+Refresher+Course

The U.S. Coast Guard is giving eligible mariners more time to take the Vessel Security Officer (VSO) Refresher Course.

The previous deadline was 1 July 2009. Eligible mariners now have until 1 July 2011 to take this course.

To be eligible for the 1-day Vessel Security Officer (VSO) Refresher Course, mariners must have:

  • At least 6 months of VSO experience during the previous 3 years; or
  • Attended a VSO course that was not approved under the MARAD approval scheme.

Mariners who do not meet these criteria but want a Vessel Security Officer endorsement from the U.S. Coast Guard must take the full 2-day VSO Course from an approved training provider.

Mariners
DNV has approved several 1-day VSO Refresher Courses and 2-day VSO Courses on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard. To see the current list of approved courses, click here.

Maritime Training Centers
DNV conducts VSO course approvals on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard.
